I enjoy diet soda immensely. I drink at least one diet soda a day. I always jump to the defense of diet soda and its artificial sweeteners when detractors try to deter me from my junkie diet soda ways. But there has been some disturbing studies of late that link weight gain, metabolic syndrome and heart disease to the body's reaction to the artificial sweeteners. In fact, studies found that there may be actual changes in the brain and body chemistry itself when artificial sweeteners are consumed.
