Why aren't the lids for many products recyclable? I'm puzzled as to why the manufacturer of, let's say a water bottle, doesn't make the lid out of the same plastic as the bottle so that both are as equally recyclable? Do the makers of some plastic containers contract the making of lids out to other companies or something of the sort? I am confused and would like an answer.
I am also perturbed about another similar issue. I've noticed that for some things, such as margarine, that the plastic tub will have a number on it (usually a 5 or something), but the lid won't have a number on it at all. Now, to my eye, the lid appears to be constructed out of the same material as the tub, but it still lacks a number. I always recycle the top along with the tub, but is that going to ruin the "batch" or will the top be discarded at the recycling center for not having a number on it? I want answers!
Finally, why do styrofoam containers have a recycling number on them (usually a 6)? I have yet to find a recycling service or company that will recycle styrofoam! So, what's the deal?!?
I WANT THE TRUTH! I CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH!
